Main Purpose of the Job

The Student Support Manager's main objective is to lead the student support offer within the campus, ensuring high quality provision is provided for all students at dBs Institute Manchester. The role requires effective communication between the support team and the course teams, careful monitoring and triaging of support requirements, management of funding allocations and planning of strategic developments. The role also consists of delivering 1-2-1 support to students.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Leading the student support team. Including:
  • Ensuring that all support staff undertake appropriate recording and monitoring of student progress.
  • Managing performance reviews of the student support team, identifying CPD requirements and sharing examples of best practice.
Offering 1-2-1 support to students in one of the following areas*:
  • Mental Health mentoring
  • SpLD Study Skills and Mentoring
  • ASD Study Skills and Mentoring
Ensuring that support strategies are appropriate to:
  • Quickly & efficiently identify the needs of the individuals
  • Promote independence & resilience in students
  • Enhance the progression opportunities for students.
Coordinating DSA support including:
  • Allocating support in accordance with DSA funding requirements.
  • Sourcing assessors and organising diagnostic assessments.
  • Managing funding allocations and creating accurate records of support for DSA invoicing.
  • Keeping up-to-date with the DSA-NMH Mandatory Qualifications or Professional Body Membership Criteria for student support staff.
Acting as Safeguarding Lead within the centre and supporting safeguarding staff with caseloads.

Work closely with the Head of Campus regarding utilisation of support budgets.

Undertaking any personal development necessary to ensure effective performance in the role.

Work in collaboration with the Head of Campus and Institute-wide Student Support Teams in the delivery and monitoring of student support, including assessment and review.

Maintaining knowledge of best practice in the area of HE Student Support, and suggesting change where appropriate.

Supporting the planning and delivery of study support sessions in collaboration with academic staff to enhance study-skills across the student cohort.

Attending Open Days to support with enquiries in relation to student support needs.

About You

Degree level education, (or qualified by experience) and a background in an appropriate registered field (eg learning support, social work, counselling, nursing, occupational health or other equivalent)

Significant experience of Student Loans Companies (SFE / SFW etc.) and DSA policies and procedures

Evidence of ability to use diagnostic skills in triaging to be able to quickly and efficiently identify the needs of the individual

A ppreciation and general understanding of the Data Protection Act, Safeguarding legislation, the Equality Act and Codes of Ethics for confidentiality
