About Isle of Wight College
The Isle of Wight College was established in 1951, initially offering courses in construction and engineering. It is now a General FE College with a broad curriculum that reflects the needs of the Island community.
We initially offered courses in construction and engineering but are now a General FE College with a broad curriculum that reflects the needs of the Island community, offering courses from foundation to degree level.
As the only Further Education College on the Island we have a record of success that is currently the envy of the sector, having achieved a Grade 1 (Outstanding) in our latest Ofsted Inspection. We recognise our responsibility to serve the education, training and skills needs of individuals, organisations and the community. We have high aspirations and expectations for all of our students, enabling them to develop the skills and knowledge to achieve their full potential and progress onto further learning or employment.
To this end, the College’s strategic aims for 2014 – 2017 are;
- To be the lead post-16 education provider on the Isle of Wight (Quality)
- To offer a wide range of learning opportunities, which are responsive to learners’ needs and enable sustainable organisational growth (Curriculum)
- To provide first class resources and ensure their efficient and effective application to support learning (Resources)
- To recruit, develop and retain a highly skilled and motivated staff and governing body (Staff)
Why work for us?
The Isle of Wight College has a national reputation for providing outstanding teaching and learning and has many first class facilities. Most recently we have successfully acquired a substantial government fund, enabling us to develop a new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) building on campus. A further successful bid, supported by local industry employers, has seen us undertake the design and build of a new Centre of Excellence for Composites, Marine and Advanced Manufacturing, located in Whippingham, East Cowes. We have also recently completed our Pathways Centre for our students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. This offers state of the art facilities and resources to our students, giving them the best possible learning opportunities.
