College Induction

Within your first few weeks, you will take part in a comprehensive College induction programme. This covers safeguarding, equality and diversity, professional boundaries, health and safety and data protection.

All new staff are assigned a mentor, an experienced colleague, who will help you to settle into your working life.

College managers work hard with our three recognised trade unions (UCU, UNISON and ACM) to ensure we remain one of the best employers locally and in the further education sector as a whole. B&FC employs its own staff, believing that commitment and quality stem from being part of a team.

Staff development

We’re proud of our ‘Investor in People’ status and are committed to training and developing staff in order to steer them towards success. To help in this we operate:

• an annual Staff Development Review to identify your training and development needs
• an annual Performance Review based on personal targets derived from the College’s strategic objectives
• Continuous Professional Development (CPD) – as part of our commitment to CPD we require that our lecturing staff either have a Certificate in Education already or will work towards one shortly into their employment

What we expect from you

In return for the conditions of service outlined above, we expect full-time lecturers to teach for 886 hours a year and full-time staff to work 37 hours a week. In addition, we expect all our staff to be passionate about their work and about education generally. Whether you are working direct with students or providing a service to the College, you should realise that high-quality teaching and learning is central to our success, and your contribution, no matter how small, is a vital part of that.
