Purpose of the role:
The WEA has an exciting opportunity for a Development and Outreach Coordinator to identify key areas and build new partnerships across Portsmouth
This is a part time role of 17.5 hours per week.
The Workers` Educational Association is a unique charity and the UK`s largest voluntary sector provider of adult education. With a clear vision and a strong social purpose, we bring great teaching to local communities, with life-changing courses held in clubs, pubs, workplaces, schools and almost anywhere else you can think of. Since 1903, we have been giving disadvantaged people the opportunity to return to learning - inspiring them to realise their full potential and become active, engaged citizens. We see education as a tool for social justice, not just self-improvement, and we pride ourselves on making learning egalitarian and accessible. Volunteers play a central role in everything we do, from governance through to classroom support, helping us deliver courses to 50,000 people in 2,300 locations - and enabling us to reach 80% of the population.
Key areas of responsibility:
The ultimate aim is to increase WEA provision and thus reach new students.
You will develop new opportunities through outreach within the Portsmouth region; raising the profile of the WEA, reaching out in deprived areas, working with community organisations, job centres and schools to develop new work in the city and outskirts
About you:
You are someone who is motivated by social justice; empowering adults and giving the most vulnerable and marginalised opportunities to build skills and aspirations through education. A background in community work and knowledge of the communities in Portsmouth would be an advantage. A people person who enjoys networking and raising the profile of the WEA.
