Principal and Chief Executive Officer

South Essex College is the largest and most diverse vocational curriculum provider across Essex, offering a range of courses from entry level to honour degrees, and providing bespoke training hand-in-hand with employers in state-of-the-art facilities. With an annual turnover of approximately £50 million, around 1000 apprentices (pre-Covid) and approximately 10,000 students each year, the College provides wide-ranging services to employers, other providers, and students. The College sits in a strong and enviable position to build on its existing solid foundations and move forwards and look to the future to successfully develop and grow. It has ambitions to continue to provide high-quality education to its students and develop and grow its activities alongside the local economy. It is in this context that the College is now seeking to appoint a new Principal and Chief Executive Officer. Providing overall leadership and commercial vision to the College, the Principal will ensure that the College achieves its strategic aspirations and quality improvement objectives. An inspirational and inclusive leader, the Principal will lead the College to support its community of learners to achieve excellent results, employability and have overall responsibility for academic and curriculum performance. The successful candidate will have demonstrable senior management experience in an organisation of significant size, scope and complexity. With experience operating within an education setting, they will understand the challenges and issues impacting the sector. They will have delivered strategy at an organisational level and will have significant experience managing financial budgets and resources. They will need to continue to develop and sustain partnerships with a wide range of external bodies across the public and private sectors, including local businesses and the wider community, and will need to be able build relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders and communities. Building on the existing culture of openness, innovation and achievement, the Principal will provide an inspiring vision that empowers staff to achieve their fullest potential and foster a culture of inclusivity and respect.
