Animal Science Laboratory Technician - part time

Activate Learning have an exciting opportunity for an experience Animal Science Laboratory Technician to join our well-established Animal Management team based at our most unique college in Worplesdon, Guildford. Merrist Wood College offers a variety of specialist courses in Animal Management, Land-based, Equine and much more and we are now recruiting a dedicated and professional individual who has a real passion for achieving excellence.

You will be responsible for providing technical support for the Science Laboratory facilities which include, ensuring the teachers and our learners fully equipped in preparation for their lessons, making sure the environment is clean, safe and well stocked in-line with Health and Safety requirements. In addition, you will be required to support the teacher in the delivery of all teaching programmes and be present during the lessons to offer additional support learners if required.

This post is part time (22.5 hours per week) permanent contract.


What do you need to be successful in this role?

Successful candidates will have level 4 qualification in one of the following science subjects, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Animal Science, and experience of laboratory work.

You will experience in writing risk assessments and COSHH assessments, good attention to detail, strong communication skills, and IT literate.

Ideally, you will have experience working in an education environment, specifically in a school or college laboratory.


In addition, you will need to have a flexible approach, coupled with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. You will demonstrate the ability to engage and develop students and role model the attributes that we develop within our learners.
