ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced teaching assistant to aid the delivery of our new BA (Hons) in Integrative Counselling degree to continue the success of the counselling offer within University Studies at WSC.  You will join the Department of Health & Human Sciences and join a friendly and supportive team of Counsellors and colleagues, who play key roles in the delivery and on-going development of the courses in the Department.

You will take on the role of teaching assistant with support from the Course Leader, with whom you will work closely. You will be actively involved in curriculum delivery, creatively considering teaching and learning within a dynamic team, and assist with teaching across the years of the Integrative Counselling course. You will be involved in preparing students for professional employment and your role will include actively supporting skills sessions and to support and encourage students to achieve their potential. You will also supervise students and participate in admissions and recruitment events working collaboratively with wider College and outreach partners.

Role Responsibilities

  • To assist in the teaching and assessment, on a range of programmes as required by the Head of School and Course Leader for Counselling.
  • Participate in the development of existing and new course programmes and to assume responsibility for areas of work as appropriate.
  • Fully participate in the development of the provision’s Course portfolio within Health & Human Sciences related programmes.
  • Participate in course team meetings, curriculum planning and materials development as required.
  • Assist with marketing and promotion of all courses within the School as required.
  • Attend events, career functions and open days/evenings, some of which may be on a Saturday.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of short course programmes.
  • Liaise with school, moderators, assessors, industrial bodies and employers as appropriate.
  • Liaise with internal and/or external verifiers if appropriate.
  • Carry out general duties attached to the post on the College premises.

Required qualifications, skills and experience

  • A good honours degree (desirable).
  • A teaching qualification (desirable).
  • BACP/UKCP registration (essential), and BACP Accreditation, or working towards this (desirable).
  • Professional experience in, or related field.
  • Ability to assist in the delivery of teaching at levels 4, 5 & 6 of a degree course and at Level 3 (Access to HE).
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to teach across a wide range of ages and ability.
