Caretaker

City of Portsmouth College has been formed by the merger of Portsmouth College and Highbury College and was formally constituted on 1 August 2021.  

The newly formed College will give students of all ages even greater flexibility with their programmes and access to dedicated subject facilities at the different campus locations. The joint organisation will also expand a uniquely flexible curriculum offer within the city of Portsmouth, comprising A Levels, vocational diplomas, apprenticeships and higher education qualifications.

Over the coming academic year, Portsmouth College and Highbury College will retain their individual identities and will be unveiling the new City of Portsmouth College brand in September 2022. Candidates wishing to apply for vacancies should continue to do so via the relevant college website.

Job Title:              Caretaker

Hours:                  17 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Salary:                 £7,898.09 (FTE £17,189.98)

Contract:             Permanent

The Floating Caretaker is responsible to the Caretaker Team Leader for providing high-quality support to the Estates Department. The role will include completing day to day routine tasks such as security checks, classroom setups, PPM’s (Pre Planned Maintenance) whilst working within the Health & Safety requirements of the College.

The role requires an individual who has well developed organisational, communication and team working skills. They must also be able to meet targets and deadlines. The role is for 17 hours per week which will need to be worked flexibly to cover weekends where needed.  

  • You must have a good standard of Maths and English
  • Evidence of commitment to professional development
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Capable of working in a busy environment
  • Ability to deal with caretaking issues within a large organisation
  • First Aid certificate is preferred
  • Full driving license as you may be required to travel between sites
