Head of School – Vocational & Technical Studies

South Thames College are now looking for a Head of School to join the Curriculum Management Team.The portfolio of curriculum is varied and includes students on 16-18 study programmes, Adults on Access to HE and AEB funded courses, HE provisions and Apprenticeships across a wide curriculum subject range and across all levels. The school is supported by a broad management team that drives delivery and performance that requires strategic leadership to maintain high quality attainment, added value and learner experiences. The focus is on ensuring that current and future students receive a first-class experience that enables them to progress and attain their qualifications at high levels and to develop long-lasting and employability skills.The role of Head of School is to lead the strategic development and operational management of the School's curriculum in line with College objectives and performance targets. You will lead on curriculum development opportunities in all funding streams and their areas of their provision, including Deputy & Section Head's and curriculum teams in the growth strategies and planning processes for Programmes of Study, Adult Education, Higher Education, Apprenticeships & T-Levels, Business Partnerships and in any other projects in agreement with the College Principal and/or Matrix Teams.Another critical part of this role is to identify and evaluate the strengths and the areas for improvement and to translate this into operating plans with clear actions and targets to be met over a defined period of time. The Head of School will closely monitor these with the School Management Group and report on progress at the College CMT.Do you have a proven track record of improving and managing a high-quality curriculum? Can you demonstrate leadership and management skills in the context of curriculum and staff management? If so, we want to hear from you!We're looking for an individual who holds a degree or appropriate qualification in an area relevant to the work in the school and who has sound knowledge of the curriculum offered in the school and a fire grasp of current and impending changes to the curriculum. Recognised as a good or better teacher, you will have substantial relevant teaching experience and demonstrate personal qualities such as empathy, interpersonal skills and teamwork.With experience of leading and working within teams, identifying training and development needs for both teaching and support teams, you will have a good attention to detail, a creative approach to problem-solving and be innovative to improve quality. We'd like you to have a good understanding of the process of curriculum development, accreditation and validation along with a thorough understanding of quality assurance and improvement processes and how these can be used to improve the learner experience.A teaching qualification isn't essential; however, we do ask that you are willing to undergo teacher training in line with current regulations.Closing date for the return of completed applications is 31st October.Interviews will be held week commencing 8th November.The benefits package includes generous annual leave of 37 days plus up to 7 additional days over Christmas/New Year as well as an additional 5 days Wellbeing leave to enhance employees' physical and mental health.
