IN SHORT

MK College Group have an exciting new opportunity for a creative Employability Lecturer to join the team based at HMP Whitemoor, on a part time basis. The days for this role are not fixed currently, so there could be some flexibility for the successful candidate – education runs all day Mon-Thurs and until lunchtime on Fridays.

As an Employability Lecturer, you will be actively engaging prison-based learners with creative classes and resources in the delivery of Level 1 & 2 Employability courses. Many of the learners have a diverse range of needs and learning abilities, they will often have had a negative experience with education. As a successful Employability Teacher, you will truly inspire them and provide learners with a positive learning experience.

This role will involve outreach work outside of the main classroom setting. You will be connecting with learners in a professional manner, supporting them with their learning, enabling them to achieve success through not only qualifications, but developing the confidence and softer skills that they can apply to employment as well as other areas of education.

We are seeking an individual who can communicate well with learners to inspire and motivate them. The average class consist of 8 learners and the sessions are approximately 3 hours long. Your lessons will need to be adaptable, innovative, and imaginative.

MK College will treat all applicants fairly and with respect, irrespective of their background, disability or any other individual characteristic. We particularly encourage applications from people with backgrounds which are currently under-represented within Milton Keynes College.  All offers made to successful candidates are subject to satisfactory outcomes to a range of pre-employment checks including a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS). In addition, security clearance is required for all prison services positions up to Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) level.

About HMP Whitemoor:

HMP Whitemoor is a maximum-security prison for Category A and B men. The prison focuses on settlement (helping those convicted of serious offences to make positive use of long sentences) and resettlement (reducing the risk of reoffending through assessment, work, education and offending behaviour programmes).

HMP Whitemoor opened in 1991 and is part of the Long-Term High Security Estate and includes an Offender Personality Disorder Unit (OPDU).  This unit is part of the national DSPD Programme of the Health Partnerships Directorate, providing thorough assessment and a fully worked out treatment model.

Whitemoor also houses a Close Supervision Centre (CSC). The unit prepares prisoners who pose a severe risk to others, to return to a normal prison environment.
