Sport and Public Services Teacher

Job Role:

Activate Learning are recruiting for a sport and Public/Protected Services Teacher with passion and drive to join us at Reading College.

The post holder will teach up to level 3 in both subjects, supporting our students who are looking to follow a career in sport or within the uniformed services, such as: police, military, paramedics, fire brigade.

We are not just looking for someone who will be a good teacher, but for someone who can act as a role model to students and who ensures that they leave us with their desired academic qualification as well developing their individual potential as people and preparing them for their next steps.

This is a full time, fixed term position until June 2023. There is the possibility for job share for the right candidate, so we would welcome applications for this as a part time role. Please specify your preference on your application form.

What do you need to be successful in this role?

You will have a minimum level 3 or above qualification in Sport or Public Service sector and significant experience working in one of the uniformed services.

Whilst we would prefer applications from qualified teachers who hold a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification, we would consider applications from unqualified applicants, with the ability to inspire our learners and a willingness to complete a teaching qualification. Unqualified candidates would start at a lower salary point and this could be discussed at interview, if successfully shortlisted.

In addition, you will need to have a flexible approach, coupled with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. You will have an open mindset and attitude towards technology and virtual learning tools. Along with current Maths and English skills, you will also demonstrate the ability to engage and develop students and role model the attributes that we develop within our learners.

What are the benefits of this role?

There really is no limit in terms of your personal growth, development and career by joining one of the largest Education Providers in the UK. You will have a comprehensive development program as part of induction together with peer to peer learning, a formal development plan and support at every step of the way to set you up for success.

We offer a buddy system, a digital induction module and a close-knit community of experts and leaders across the Group to support the sharing of best practice and encourage individual growth. We have extensive technology in place to develop digital capability and flexible working arrangements will be considered for the right candidate.
