The group is currently home to a population of over 5,000 full-time students and around 500 students on higher education programmes. We have over 4,000 part-time or adult learners and 2,000 apprentices where we work with over 800 individual employers. Our Sixth Form provision has a reputation for high academic achievement and excellence.

The main responsibilities of this role are to work with the Curriculum Leaders and Additional Learning Support Co-ordinator to identify students who require additional support and then work with these students within class, 1:1 or in small groups as well as leading a team of Learning Support Assistants.

To be successful you will have a level 3 qualification in literacy and numeracy or be working towards one and have relevant support or teaching experience within the FE sector. In addition you will be able to co-ordinate and lead a team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • To positively engage with all assessors, teaching staff, WBL Apprenticeship Managers and ALS Co-ordinator to identify students who may have additional learning support needs.
  • To lead the associated Learning Support Assistants in the delivery of support within class ensuring effective utilisation of Learning Support Assistants through timetabling, support and guidance.
  • In close liaison with assessor, WBL Apprenticeship Manager and ALS Co-ordinator carry out Additional Support screening and where needed ensure assessments are carried out to enable the learner to received exam access arrangements.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Has or is willing to train for an appropriate support qualification at Level 3 or above
  • Has experience of using a range of screening tools to identify learners that may have additional learning needs.
  • Has relevant support/teaching experience within the FE Sector.
  • Has a good knowledge of learning and physical difficulties/disabilities and the best approaches for working with learners with difficulties/disabilities.
