We’re looking to recruit an experienced Director of Finance who will have responsibility for leading the financial management of the College to ensure its solvency, safeguard its assets and invest regularly for the benefit of our students, staff and key stakeholders. You will work collaboratively with the Senior Management Team and with budget holders.
This is an exciting time to join the team at the City of Portsmouth College, a brand new college formed by the merger of Highbury College and Portsmouth College. You will have drive and energy, passion and determination to help the new City of Portsmouth College to improve its financial performance through the development and implementation of a new finance strategy and by driving up efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations across the College. You will be responsible for the leadership and management of a well-resourced Finance team including the payroll function. You will also be responsible for the development and implementation of the finance strategy; management accounting including forecasting; budgeting; preparation of the annual financial statements; the capital expenditure programme; management of the audit process; and other financial reporting requirements.
The Director of Finance will take a proactive lead on understanding and managing the complexity of, and potential conflicts between, the funding priorities of the City of Portsmouth College and its funders, partners, and stakeholders. The post holder will also develop and implement a long-term finance strategy in addition to a three-year financial plan ensuring the financial viability of the College.
In August 2021, Highbury College and Portsmouth College merged to form the City of Portsmouth College. The new organisation is a general further education college in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. Total income is c£32m in 2022/23.
The City of Portsmouth College provides technical, vocational and academic education and training including Apprenticeships for young people and adults. Our courses range from first-step courses to university level foundation degrees in a wide variety of subjects. We also deliver specialised services for businesses and education in the community. Courses include A Levels, T Levels, vocational diplomas (BTECs), GCSEs, Foundation Degrees, Apprenticeships and a full range of unaccredited courses.
The College has brought together more than 55 years of experience from the legacy colleges, during which time it has built a strong reputation for both academic, technical and professional programmes. It also has close relationships with those working in various industries which ensure that the ever-changing skills needs of employers in the area are met.
The College actively promotes lifelong learning and delivers a wide range of adult courses at more than 40 community venues in and around Portsmouth, as well as from four College campuses across the Portsmouth region.
The College is also a large provider of Apprenticeship training in the south east and currently offers Apprenticeships in more than 40 subject areas.
