Head of Student Welfare & Safeguarding Services

Where you’ll work: This is a multi-sited role, primarily based at Dartford but with travel to Gravesend, Hadlow and Tonbridge as required.

Your pay: £50,000 per annum.

Your hours: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday), 52 weeks per year.

Your employment: Full time, permanent.

With the continuation of exciting changes happening at North Kent College, following our joining with Hadlow and West Kent Colleges in summer 2020, we’ve created a new management role to head up Student Support and take responsibility for the planning, organisation and deployment of student welfare and safeguarding services.

Reporting directly to the Assistant Principal for Teaching, Learning & Student Services, you’ll be a key member of our management team and will focus on health, wellbeing and pastoral support across all College sites, specifically in terms of safeguarding, counselling and mental health provision.

Working closely with the Assistant Principal, and with the support of your Deputy and the wider team, you’ll be implementing strategies and operational approaches that maximise support for students within an efficient financial framework. It goes without saying that you’ll need to ensure our whole College approach is consistent and rigorous.

In managing, supporting and developing a team of Designated Safeguarding Leads across all sites, as well as being a DSL yourself, you’ll have full authority to refer to external partnerships as necessary and will work with the Assistant Principal to make certain that the College meets its legislative obligations.

You’ll need to be a natural communicator with proven ability to develop positive relationships both internally and with third parties. You’ll also be adept at in responding efficiently to rapidly changing situations, have excellent time management and organisation skills, and be well versed in developing procedures for effective communication, locally and more widely.

Up-to-date DSL / safeguarding training is vital, as is solid understanding and experience in dealing with legislation and good practice in relation to young people within education.

Naturally, you’ll have experience in similar professional roles, bringing your experience and enthusiasm to this key position. You won’t be afraid to challenge people’s ideas when needed, and your own to check the approach is working. Last but not least, you’ll bring enthusiasm to make this key position your own.

In return, we’ll give you 40 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, and you’ll be enrolled onto the Local Government Pension Scheme which also includes life assurance. You’ll also benefit from free parking and have access to a range of onsite facilities including a nursery, restaurants and coffee shops.
