Arable Forman / Tractor Driver

Tractor driver / Arable foreman  

Hours: 48 hours per week including weekend work on a rota basis.

Salary: £30,601 - £32,138 (A36-A38) Per annum    


Reaseheath College is looking to recruit a highly motivated Tractor driver / arable foreman to take a lead in the machinery operations, repair and service, crop agronomy, animal feeding and wider estate maintenance. Answerable to the Farm Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for the Tractor and Workshop based activities to fit in with the farm teams work rota. The successful Candidate must be conscientious and willing to operate to the very highest standards, following the Farm Managers protocols for production. As a leading Landbased College there will also be the requirement to operate alongside learners of all abilities whilst imparting knowledge and skills to them.


We are a mixed farm consisting of Dairy, Sheep and 600-acre Arable departments.

Our main role is to act as a teaching resource for the Agriculture department and the wider college. The Dairy herd currently consists of 200 Pedigree Holstein cows with a herd average of 10500litres.


The College currently has a 32-point GEA rapid exit parlour and also new Robotic dairy centre which will consist of Robots, cubicle housing and teaching facility. In addition the college farm is in the process of developing an institute of technology which will incorporate the latest in precision farming technologies and arable data centre. A knowledge of precision farming technology and GPS is an essential element of the position.


The Arable enterprise consists of a 600-acre estate growing a mix of crops grown for forage purposes. Crops for the 2022-23 season include Maize, Peas, Barley, Wheat, Clover and Grass and environmental areas. Within the role there will be a requirement to take on a level of responsibility for this area and the operations around growing the various forage crops. This will include meeting with the college’s agronomist and suppliers, helping to arrange external help where required and engaging learners in all of the aspects associated with machinery-based operations.

As tractor driver the successful candidate will have access and control of the farm’s workshops and machinery fleet.


The Farm Team is responsible for demonstrating the very highest levels of best practice throughout the unit from health and safety, general operation, animal welfare to communication and student Development.


As a team member you will be responsible for the ensuring that the unit delivers the learner experience that is required by the various curriculum departments whilst ensuring the farm operates to the very highest standards as a commercial unit.


This is an exciting and engaging role. The successful candidate will not only be able to operate at the top of UK dairy production but have the ability to directly influence the next generation entering the sector.


BASIS and FACTS crop agronomy qualifications are desirable but a willingness to undertake these qualifications is essential over the first 2 years of being in the role.

The successful candidate will therefore be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check with barred list information prior to starting employment. You must have the right to work in the UK and will be required to provide evidence to support this.
