South Essex College is the largest provider of technical and vocational education and training for 16-18 year olds, adults and apprenticeship provision within Essex - and we are growing! We have a position available for an all-round Workshop Engineer / Toolmaker to join a well-established college. Duties within role: Teach manual milling/turning/grinding and also be willing to work across the engineering department when needed. Energetic, entrepreneurial, and experienced in machining, using both lathes and Mills and CNC machines (desirable). Provide lecturer and workshop instruction in the completion for Machine Tool Technology programs as well as any additional certificate programs that are developed, and will collaborate with machine tool and other tech faculty on curriculum development, programming, and maintenance of equipment. Actively work with industry to ensure that students are prepared with appropriate machining skills and knowledge and will support collaborations with industry. Work closely with the faculty in our College program and with instructors working in concurrent enrolment programs. Team-oriented with demonstrated skills to engage students in the machining discipline and be able to communicate effectively to promote excellence within the academic program. Engage in learner-centred teaching methods, collaborate positively with colleagues, and otherwise contribute to the collegial and good-humoured environment of the campus. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required by the Position: The successful applicant must have relevant experience in milling and turning. Capable of teaching a variety of machine tooling related classes. Commitment to the college mission and technical education. Effective communication • Ability to collaborate in a team environment Ability to manage time and responsibilities Ability to engage students in the classroom, workshop, and Online using teams or other Learning management software.
