Head of Governance

Walsall College is one of the most successful colleges in the country with a well-earned reputation both regionally and nationally.  We have a number of campuses in and around the borough of Walsall with modern facilities and environment for excellent learning and working. We have over 850 staff, and more than 12,000 people study vocational technical qualifications, apprenticeships and higher education programmes each year. Our exceptional facilities offer a stimulating learning and working environment, which is enhanced by staff who are committed to providing the best student experience.

We are seeking an exceptional individual for the post of Head of Governance. The role is designated as a Senior Post and will report directly to the College Corporation, via the Chair, but also work closely with the College's Principal and other senior staff at the college.

One of the cornerstones of our success is the Governance arrangements which operate at the College. The successful candidate will bring valuable support and stewardship to our dynamic and forward-looking Corporate Board. They will also independently advise the Corporation with regards to the operation of its powers, procedural matters, the conduct of business and to matters of governance practice.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding and relevant experience of corporate governance, working in Governance/company secretary or in a similar capacity with exposure to Board level interaction. They will be able to demonstrate a strong track record of ensuring at all times a professional balance between maintaining independence and developing/maintaining the trust and confidence of the Board members.

The Board of Corporation recognise that we are seeking to recruit an exceptional individual and as such we are able to offer an excellent benefits package which include:

  • Competitive salary
  • 35 days annual leave (pro rata) plus generous additional closure days and bank holidays
  • Enrolment into the West Midlands Pension Fund with generous employer contributions.
  • Outstanding staff training and team building programme.
  • ZEST is the College’s Health & Wellbeing initiative for our staff.
  • Staff incentive schemes including Cycle to Work scheme and ‘Best of Walsall’ discounts.
  • Simply Health care scheme.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Reward and recognition scheme.
  • State of the art campuses with the latest industry facilities, including our Graduate Salon of Hair and Beauty and on site Little Professors’ Nursery.
  • Access to ‘The Hub’ offering a Gym, Spa & Sports Clinic and The Littleton Restaurant.

Walsall College is uniquely and proudly vocational. Offering a wide range of courses from Further Education and Apprenticeships through to Higher Education. Our greatest passion is unleashing the potential of individuals, communities and businesses and our greatest legacy is the talent of our students: skilled, professional and enterprising.

This is an exciting time for Walsall College and an excellent opportunity for the right individual to play a key role in our future success. We are open to considering hybrid working for the right candidate. Come and join us if you have what we are looking for.

Closing date for applications is 1 June at 12 noon
