South Essex College are looking for a Technical Practitioner to join their Construction and Building Services department. The role will involve: -Providing academic and technical support to students to enable them to successfully develop the technical skills. -Provide demonstrations of technical skills to aid the delivery of outstanding provision. Initiate the ordering of supplies and / or equipment as necessary ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures of the college. -Maintain the stock levels of consumables and ensure the maintenance of curriculum / department equipment meets health and safety standards for the smooth running of the curriculum /department. The ideal candidate: -Will have recent industrial experience in a relevant area. Ideally, they will have experience of education or involvement in training in the workplace. -Will be able to work with young people to support them to achieve and succeed to their full potential within a workshop environment. -Will have a key responsibility for instilling and upholding strong Health & Safety standards in practical environments as well as ensuring that the maintenance of all tools and equipment used in the workshop environment meets health and safety standards. Under the Health & Safety etc. at Work Act 1974 it is the responsibility of individual employees at every level to take care of their own health and safety at work and that of others who may be affected by their acts at work. The College is committed to the safeguarding of all its students, staff and visitors and provides a safe physical environment. All appointments are subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced criminal records with Barred List check through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Anyone starting midway through the academic year will have their monthly salary slightly reduced, as staff need to have worked a certain length of time through the academic year to be able to receive continued payment through the summer, when you won't be expected to work. The actual figure would be calculated once a start date is confirmed. At the beginning of the next academic year the monthly salary will revert to 1/12th of the whole pro rata salary quoted.
