About the role: Animal Management Teacher
Merrist Wood College, part of Activate Learning, are now looking for an Animal Care or Veterinary Nurse professional to teach and join our Animal Management and Employability team on a permanent part time basis.
As an Animal Management Teacher, you will co-ordinate and deliver purposeful, yet exciting practical and theory lessons to a diverse group of learners. Working in collaboration with the Animal Management provision and other internal and external partners, you will be responsible for the teaching, training and assessment of our learners that share an ultimate passion within the subject area.
Teaching will predominantly be across the Level 2 City and Guilds Animal Care and Level 3 Pearson Animal Management qualifications, including delivery of Veterinary Nursing and Animal Health units.
The role is offered on a permanent, part-time basis working 18.5 hours per week (0.5 FTE), ideally on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday but with some flexibility in working hours around the scheduled timetable.
You will join a supportive and well-established teaching team and will get to work within a state-of-the-art £4 million animal management centre that is home to a wide range of species, on a beautiful 400-acre campus. We also have a licenced zoo, with Arid, Tropical and Nocturnal biomes and a fully functioning farm.

We are looking for people who can act as role models for our learners and ensure that they leave us with not just their professional qualifications, but the attributes required to progress in the world of work.
Whilst previous teaching experience and qualification would be an advantage, it is not a requirement. As long as you have the qualifications to teach on our Animal Health and Veterinary Nursing units and demonstrate the attributes to be an inspirational teacher, we can provide you with the necessary training, development and support to equip you to teach in the FE sector.
Your communication and interpersonal skills will be outstanding and support your ability to deliver interesting and purposeful lessons to a diverse range of learners. You will also have strong organisation skills coupled with the ability to prioritise workloads and will benefit from being part of a supportive team, working in a varied and interesting role with a variety of opportunities for career development.
