OUR BENEFITS
ABOUT HMP FOSSE WAY
HMP Fosse Way is a Category C super prison, holding in excess of 1700 adult male sentenced offenders. The prison operates an offence neutral approach to rehabilitation and is privately operated by Serco.
HMP Fosse Way is built on the site previously occupied by HMP Glen Parva, which closed its gates in 2017. The competition to choose a new name for the prison was run by the HM Prison and Probation Service amongst the local community and after a six-week consultation, the name Fosse Way was chosen. The origin of the name Fosse Way is deep rooted in South Leicestershire, and was a roman road originally built to link key areas such as Exeter, Lincoln, Bath and Leicester across the country. The name is also popular with a number of local businesses and venues so seemed a fitting choice.
HMP Fosse Way’s focus is firmly fixed on reducing reoffending and preventing future victims of crime by preparing offenders for their release through accredited intervention programmes, skill and vocational based training and education, in a pro social environment.
Courses at HMP Fosse Way include Maths, English, IT, Bricklaying, Carpentry, Fork-Lift, Barbering, Business Mentoring, and much more.
The education delivery hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am – 11.15am, 1:30pm – 4:15pm, with staff working on-site 8:10am – 4:40pm each day. Class sizes typically range from 12 learners in classrooms to 17 learners in workshops.
The site offers free parking, with South Wigston Train Station located within walking distance. Staff facilities include a bistro, coffee shop, gym and electric car charging points.
