We have a fantastic opportunity at HMP Durham to join the Novus education team as our Construction Teacher on a permanent, part-time basis working 22.2 hours a week.

What the role entails

As a teacher you will develop and deliver high quality, learner focused education to meet contractual requirements and standards, you will deliver practical training in various construction trades, including Painting & Decorating, Plumbing, Joinery, and Bricklaying. Working with a group of up to 15 learners, your role will involve engaging and motivating individuals to develop their skills, knowledge, and confidence in the construction field. We are recruiting for a Multi-Skills Construction Teacher, or a Qualified Construction Tradesperson.

What we need from you

In order to be successful in the role of Teacher, you will need:

• A teaching qualification or subject specialist qualification at Level 4 (Level 5 - new standards) with a commitment to obtain the relevant outstanding Level 4 (Level 5 - new standards) qualification within a specified time scale (required).
• Hold at least a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
• Track record of effective teaching in subject specialism.

• Experience working within any one of the following construction fields (Bricklaying, Joinery, p & D)

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, hands-on training sessions in multiple construction trades
• Assess learner needs and develop individualised learning plans.
• Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
• Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback
• Support learners in achieving there learning aims.
• Stay up to date with curriculum changes and best practices in functional skills education.
