Executive Director Human Resources and Organisational Development

Following its continued success and a review of its leadership structure the College is looking to appoint someone to a new and exciting new role as Executive Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development. This is a vital role with in the college, particularly, as a people centred organisation.

Sandwell College is a large Further Education college boasting state of the art buildings and turnover approaching £30m. We have two state of the art campuses in West Bromwich.  Our estate was developed at a cost in excess of £100m. Our turnover next year is expected to grow. Our ambition is to grow to 4,100 16-18 students in the next 1-2 years and to improve our quality rating, we currently hold an Ofsted Grade 2.  In addition to our work with young people we offer education and training to 3,000-4,000 adults and apprentices and work with over 400 businesses. We have recently entered into an exciting partnership with Coventry University to develop Higher Education at the College. Increasingly we work with students in Birmingham as well as Sandwell.

This new position is a key senior leadership role within the College and the person appointed will join the College’s Strategic Leadership and report direct to the Principal and Chief Executive.  The role will encompass leading on HR matters in the College both in terms of providing an effective and efficient service to managers and staff as well as broader development of strategy including developing an organisational culture of excellence, internal and external communications on HR matters, recognition strategies and organisational values.

The person appointed will need excellent technical skills and HR knowledge; it would be particularly desirable if the individual had some familiarity with the public sector and /or further education and in particular Union communication.  The post may appeal to someone seeking their next career step having built a successful track record into senior management, or someone seeking a move into the further education sector.

Beyond technical skills, the post holder will need to be an excellent communicator with outstanding influencing and negotiation skills.  We are looking for someone who is outgoing and enthusiastic with a desire to become fully involved in wider College life and develop their role as a senior leader. The person appointed will received continued support with their career development to potentially reach CEO level.
