  1. BACKGROUND

    Safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk is of paramount importance at Northumberland College, across each of our Campuses; Ashington, Kirkley Hall (including residential students), Berwick and Hexham.

    In order to ensure effective safeguarding arrangements across the campuses, the role of the safeguarding Coordinator is to co-ordinate all safeguarding matters, be the lead on Northumberland College’s safeguarding software - MyConcern and manage safeguarding concerns as they occur on a day to day basis.

  1. JOB DESCRIPTION

 Role Responsibilities

  • Attend regular safeguarding meetings
  • Triage new concerns logged
  • Manage the MyConcern database in line with college’s safeguarding policy
  • Analyse and report on safeguarding to line manager as required
  • Act in an advisory capacity to staff regarding safeguarding concerns
  • Liaise with relevant external agencies on safeguarding issues about learners
  • Liaise with parents/guardians and professions and manage meetings about learners with safeguarding concerns
  • Review safeguarding and Prevent policy annually
  • Write the college’s termly safeguarding newsletter and circulate
  • Continuously review changes or amendments to national safeguarding policies and guidance and circulate to all staff
  • Contribute to the Student Services position statement and SAR
  • Undertake weekly new starter induction training on safeguarding and MyConcern
  • Contribute and deliver safeguarding CDP to all staff
  • Be involved in the monitoring of appropriate Internet usage

4.           TERMS & CONDITIONS

               Salary:                                £27,870 - £29,529

Hours:                                 37 hours per week

Annual leave:                   32 days plus the three days between Christmas and New Year.

Pension:                             LGPS

5.           PROBATIONARY PERIOD

The first twelve months of your employment will be a probationary period, during which your suitability for the position to which you have been appointed will be assessed.  You will have a formal progress review at three, six and nine months.  The Corporation reserves the right to extend your probationary period if, in its opinion, circumstances so require.  The Corporation’s disciplinary procedure will not apply to you during your probationary period.
