West Suffolk College is an exciting place to work right now and we are rated in the top three Further Education Colleges in the country. We also work in partnership with Suffolk Academies Trust which currently comprises of two Sixth Form Colleges, one of which is rated as outstanding and the other opened its doors last year and has recently moved into a brand-new purpose-built building.

We are now excited to announce an opening for a Group Director of IT to join us. The Group Director of IT will lead the technology strategy for Suffolk Academies Trust and West Suffolk College.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a clear aspirational ITS Strategy, supporting the current needs of the stakeholders and identifying a roadmap for the future
  • Develop, manage and track each organisation’s annual and long-term budget
  • Support the organisation leads (Principals) in providing a tailored Strategic IT infrastructure and client support service to their learning environment
  • Represent the SAT and WSCG IT Service in a professional manner developing a good working relationship with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure that all sites are developed and supported to deliver both reactive and planned intervention
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to the ITS Teams, both employed and subcontracted
  • Support the Group Operations Director on all IT related technical, people and process issues
  • Support the other group work stream Directors with specialist knowledge and skills
  • Ensure specified reports and KPI documentation are maintained, identifying and resolving issues as and when they arise
  • Audit IT documentation and ensure action plans are in place for any non-compliance issues

Required qualifications, skills and experience

In order to be successful in your application for this role you must be able to demonstrate the


  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is desirable
  • Excellent understanding of computer systems, security, network and systems administration, databases and data storage systems, and telecommunications systems
  • Experience of working across a complex organisational structure
  • Team management and leadership skills
  • Previous experience of developing client relationships at a stake holder level would be advantageous
  • Experience in providing a multi-site service
  • Resilient to challenges with a can-do attitude
  • Solutions focused
  • Ability to travel between multiple sites
