Communication Support Worker/Learning Support Assistant
Fixed Term to 18th June 2021
6.5 hours per week
£11.98 to £16.46 per hour
Required at our Rural Campus (Otley) for one day per week on a temporary basis until 18th June 2021.
We require a temporary Communication Support Worker/Learning Support Assistant to provide essential classroom and workshop support and practical assistance to our students with hearing related impairments and to play a key role in supporting our teaching staff to deliver an exceptional student experience.
You will work alongside teaching staff, and may be deployed in across a range of vocational workshops or classrooms and could work with groups of students or one to one with a specific student. You will need to have a flexible style and approach with the ability to build effective relationships with both students and teaching staff accompanied by the ability to be pro-active and use your initiative. You should have experience of working with young people and an understanding of working with people with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
You will need to have a good standard of education, literacy and numeracy at Level 2 (GCSE C or 4 grade) is essential to the role. As a Communication Support Worker, you will interpret for learners and clarify information and, when necessary, take notes for learners. You should therefore have experience of working with individuals with hearing impairments, preferably in an educational context, and have a minimum of British Sign Language Level 2. The enhanced hourly rate (incorporating a payment for annual leave) is within the range of £11.98 to £16.46.
*Suffolk New College is a multi-campus site and therefore whilst you will have a main base, you may be required to work at and travel between campuses. We have campuses in Halesworth, Leiston, Otley and Ipswich.
