It is also important you possess an excellent organizational and time management skill with the unwavering ability to set sound priorities and coordinate multiple assignments even in the face of limited time. 

Terrific interpersonal skills will also be a crucial asset to you in this job, as most of your duties will require interacting with students, parents and other college employees on, a daily basis. A great sense of humour will also be a welcome attribute for you.

Having a good educational qualification will also go a long way in guaranteeing an effective performance in this job. There are several required academic qualifications you ought to possess which includes-

  • A relevant degree or its equivalent.
  • An appreciable working experience as an advisor in any notable educational institution will be an added bonus but not compulsory.
  • Excellent IT skills. 
  • Basic understanding and use of English language.

This requirement will be regarded as compulsory on your part as well as the general basic requirements.

You will be chiefly responsible for providing guidance and support to students in the college you work with. You will also work closely with other administrative staff in the institution in other to actualize this goal and also ensure that the welfare of the students is properly cared for. Among many others, your basic responsibilities will include-

  1. Maintaining students advising records.
  2. Explore student’s personal academic and professional goals.
  3. Assist students in choosing the right academic program for themselves as they settle into the college.
  4. Collaborate efficiently with other key players in the college to actualize set standards.
  5. Serve as a liaison for the school, foster good relationships with other advisors, offices, and colleges with a common goal.
  6. Maintain effective working relationship within the assigned area including faculties and departments in the college.
  7. Adhere to strict student confidentiality guidelines.
  8. Have the ability to work for extended hours as this job may require.
  9. Be ready to perform other responsibilities as required for this position.
