Do you care about improving general knowledge of religious studies among young students in the higher education sector preferably a university or a graduate school? This opportunity is suited for people who are interested in bringing their expertise in teaching and learning process to the field of religious studies, specifically in the anthropology of religion. To carry out the requirements of this position efficiently you must be genuinely interested in teaching and have a good ability to support students both academically and pastorally. An excellent communication skill is also relevant; you should be able to communicate effectively to students and staff of the institution in a clear and concise manner.

It is also important that you possess a good organisational and time-management ability. You should be able to effectively deliver your lectures to students in line with approved and allocated time schedules and also balance your workload effectively. This role also demands that you possess an in-depth knowledge of religious studies and management. 

An exceptional leadership ability and a great interpersonal skill are also recommended. Most of your responsibilities in this position will be better performed if you can work with others as a team. Ability work independently is also required; you should be able to perform your duties effectively with little or no supervision.

In addition to these desired attributes, you must also possess some basic educational qualifications. Some of these qualifications will include-

  1. A degree in theology or religious studies from a recognised and accredited institution.
  2. A valid teaching qualification.
  3. A basic understanding of English language.
  4. Proficient in IT skills including Microsoft office suite.
  5. A minimum of 2-3 years teaching experience in religious studies/religious literacy.

These qualifications are advised to be met, as preference will be given to candidates who meet them.

You will perform a wide range of responsibilities, which will include-

  1. Facilitating students learning the process in religious studies through lectures, tutorials, and seminars both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  2. To produce high-quality teaching and learning materials, including online learning materials to support and develop student learning.
  3. Research teaching materials, identify and utilise current best practices in your field of expertise.
  4. Participate and engage in curriculum review, revision, and development of religious studies in the institution.
  5. Collaborate with other academic colleagues on course development and curriculum changes.
  6. Collaborate with other academic staff of the institution to ensure that the academic needs of the students are effectively met.
  7. To develop and design course content and materials, ensuring compliance with the quality standards and regulations of the University and Department.
  8. Assess students overall performance, through setting/ marking programme work, practical sessions, supervisions, fieldwork, and examinations, providing appropriate feedback to students
  9. Adhere to all rules, policies, and regulations governing the institution.
  10. Perform other related duties as will be required for this position.
