Dear Applicant
Thank you for exploring the possibility of applying for a position at Barnfield College. The intention of this introduction is to provide you with a short insight into the College and help you decide if you wish to pursue your application.
Barnfield College has a very proud history of being a large outstanding regional College serving Luton and the surrounding area. The recent inspection result and past troubles actually serve as a salute warning to the sector that this can happen to any College if they take their eye off improving the quality of teaching & learning, the curriculum and the student experience. My early interactions with the staff and students at the College have found that there is an enormous desire to improve and succeed.
I started at the College on the 1st of February this year and as you might have suspected have already got to work addressing the main issues by recruiting and forming a new senior team as well as formulating a turnaround strategy. You will be able to see what I have achieved in the past by looking at my previous College – John Ruskin College. A much smaller Sixth Form College that was in a similar position of poor quality and declining enrolment when I started in September 2009. Today it is a growing and oversubscribed vibrant outstanding College. Just as importantly, it is a College where students and staff love to attend to learn and work.
Barnfield College has many challenges and this new post will be instrumental to the College reviving its fortunes in becoming once again an outstanding College leading the sector for innovation and quality of provision.
If you require additional information on the College I would advise you look at our website which contains the most recent Ofsted report as well as other information. We are also willing to answer any additional questions you may have and would welcome a discussion on the telephone.
Good luck with your application, and we look forward to meeting you.
