School Business Manager - Seaton Primary School

We are looking to appoint a temporary School Business Manager to join our team from immediate effect (or at the earliest availability). We are seeking a candidate with previous experience working as a School Business Manager who has a good knowledge base of the role and an understanding of how integral the role is to the effective and successful running of a school.

This post is fixed term to provide cover for staff absence.

We are looking for a candidate who is values the importance of education and who is able to support our school development through effective leadership and management. Overall, the role involves the leadership and management of finances, budget, personnel and other school resources. As a standalone Devon maintained school, the successful candidate will be joining a team which includes a school based finance assistant, front of house administrator, a Devon Financial Advisor and a Site Manager. Working closely and effectively with this team and the headteacher is key to the role.

The successful candidate will be a positive team player and be confident in managing the school s resources and communicating with a range of people (pupils, families, teaching staff, premises staff, contractors) effectively and purposefully in support of the school s aims and objectives and in line with the school s policies and procedures.

The Business Manager will be required to work 30 hours a week ideally over four days, however, there is flexibility as to the timings/days worked. There is a need for flexibility regarding hours due to the nature of the role and in order to cover the operational needs of the school and to monitor or attend out of school activities (e.g. lettings, governor meetings).

Essential skills and knowledge
• Business management skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of Human Resources and ability to manage personnel and support with recruitment
• Confidence in providing feedback and reports to the Headteacher, governors and Local Authority
• Oversee Health & Safety ensuring compliance
• Manage the Single Central Record with support from the administrator
• Maths and financial skills
• Competent in completing key tasks in line with policy and external deadlines
• To be able to use a computer and the main software packages confidently
• Positive in approach

Desirable skills and knowledge
• Relevant training including safer recruitment and Health & Safety
• Good working knowledge of SIMS and financial management software
• Level 4 Diploma in School Business Management or other relevant Business Management qualification
