Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our supportive primary school in Barking & Dagenham. This role involves providing one-on-one support to a child in Year 1 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to ensure the child receives tailored support that fosters their academic, social, and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual support to a Year 1 child with ASD, both in and outside the classroom.
  • Assist in implementing the child's Education Healthcare Plan (EHCP) and adapting learning materials to meet their specific needs.
  • Support the child in developing social skills and managing behavioural challenges.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and other professionals to monitor and assess the child's progress.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Communicate effectively with the child's parents or guardians to provide updates on progress and discuss strategies.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with ASD or other special educational needs (SEN).
  • Patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to supporting children's individual needs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools) are desirable but not essential.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and adapting to the child's evolving needs.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).
