About the role: Transition and Retention Adviser

Activate Learning are looking for a Transition and Retention Adviser to join our Student Support and Safeguarding Team at our Banbury campus.

The post holder will predominantly support our Looked After Children (Children we Care for), Young Carers, Care Leavers and learners who require transition support from school. The post holder will liaise with internal and external services to ensure students are supported throughout their learner journey to stay on programme and achieve positive destinations.

You will work alongside a strong team of likeminded individuals in the wider Student Support team, including the College Counsellor and Behaviour and Welfare Officers, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary partners, who all share a passion for seeing these barriers overcome and young people progress into employment or higher education

This is a permanent, full-time role based at our Banbury College campus. Some travel may be required to other Activate Learning campuses, depending on capacity.

What do you need to be a successful Transition and Retention Adviser at Activate Learning?

You will have experience of working with young people or vulnerable adults within a school/youth work/college or relevant environment, along with an understanding of the issues that present as barriers to participation in education.

You will have knowledge about children who are ‘Looked After’, Care Leavers, or Young Carers, and an understanding of the statutory and community support available to them e.g., Social Workers, Personal Advisers, Virtual Schools, etc.

You will be an excellent communicator, with a creative approach to achieving engagement and participation, and be able to collaborate across a large organisation to improve outcomes for our vulnerable learners.

About you:

  • Experience of working with young people or adults at risk
  • Skilled at engaging young people who may be reluctant to engage
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills
