Group Director for Apprenticeships and Training

About the role:

Reporting to the DCEO, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy for the delivery of apprenticeship and training within the group, in line with our Learning Philosophy and learner journey, ensuring it meets market demands and government priorities. The role will be expected to:

  • Drive excellence in vocational education and skills development to deliver a consistent high quality learner experience.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation and strategic growth of apprenticeships and work-based learning education across the group.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders including the Department for Education (DfE), Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and employers, building positive relationships through collaborative working.
  • Develop a vision for the apprenticeship learner experience across the group.  
  • Provide strategic leadership for all apprenticeship provision and delivery nationally and in Faculty, supporting and developing them to ensure our work-based curriculum delivery is relevant to the skills needs locally, regionally and nationally and compliant with funding regulations.
  • Ensure the whole learner experience is outstanding and is in line with our Learning Philosophy, exceeding the DfE Accountability Framework measures.

What do you need to be successful as the Group Director for Apprenticeships and Training at Activate Learning?

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and funding mechanisms and quality assurance processes for apprenticeships.  You will have;

  • Excellent, proven strategic leadership and financial management achieved at a senior leadership level within the Further Education or vocational training sector, together with evidence of working effectively and collaboratively with a wide range of partner organisations, employees, and other key stakeholders to meet the needs of learners through the programmes.
  • A proven track record of developing and managing apprenticeship and training programmes and delivering an outstanding learner experience.
  • A forward-thinking mindset with a demonstrated ability to anticipate and embrace emerging trends and technologies in apprenticeships and training, together with a visionary and authentic leadership style and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills will allow you to overcome challenges and develop creative solutions.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and be unrelenting in the pursuance of data accuracy and compliance.
  • Strong belief in the Learning Philosophy led culture which puts learners and learning at the heart of the organisation, will be evident through your attributes, behaviours and track record.
